Have you heard of Xochimilco? Pronounced “Zo-Chee-mill co”
Xochimilco is both a lake and a neighborhood. It is center south of Mexico City and it’s considered a suburb of Mexico City.
The town sits on a lake that has waterways or canals which is what the area is best known for.
These canals are now a tourist attraction and people visit to ride on colorful boats that look like gondolas but are not quite the same they are called trajineras.
Xochimilco Is a UNESCO world heritage site and it is quite something to see.
Everything is on the water from vendors selling mixed drinks to vendors selling flowers, to mariachis selling their services and boarding your boat and singing to you For a fee of course!
it’s all floating.
Sometimes the boats bump each other but that is part of the fun!.
Xochimilco a great place to go with a group of friends and just cut up for an hour or 2 or 4. And of course there are vendors on land that you can also check out. I found tamarind balls there and was super excited about it IYKYK😊🇲🇽🇹🇹
Every time I think I’ve discovered all the fun things to do in Mexico I find another really cool thing that I enjoy. Xochimilco remember that name and make sure you go!
