Before passports and Pan-Africanism were trending, Paul Cuffe was living it.
Born in 1759 to a formerly enslaved father and a Wampanoag mother, Cuffe became a successful sea captain, entrepreneur, and abolitionist who used his wealth to support free Black communities—and even funded voyages back to West Africa.
This man was organizing, trading globally, and planting seeds for Black sovereignty before most people heard the word “liberation.”
And yet… most of us never learned about him.
In this video, I dig into Paul Cuffe’s legacy—his travels, his principles, and what he represents for Black travelers and cultural connectors today.
