Every February, Reykjavík lights up for the Winter Lights Festival — also known as Vetrahátíð — and it’s one of my favorite winter traditions here 💡❄️
This annual festival is all about brightening the dark winter nights with light art installations, interactive displays, and a totally different vibe downtown. No two years are ever the same, which makes it even more fun to experience again and again.
One of the best parts?

👉🏾 Museum Night
👉🏾 Free events all weekend long
I personally love how it transforms the city and invites you to explore Reykjavík in a new way — even in the middle of winter.
If you’re planning a trip to Iceland in winter, February is such an underrated time to visit. Vetrahátíð alone makes it worth considering ✨
