A Black History Riverboat Cruise in Europe
A few weeks ago, I sailed through the Netherlands and Belgium with AmaWaterways' Soulful Experience—a riverboat cruise exploring Black history and culture across Europe with almost 100 Black travelers.
I left feeling empowered.
We learned about the Moors and the modernization they brought to European science, medicine, and the arts. We discovered how Amsterdam's beloved salt fish is heavily influenced by Trinidadian culture. We saw our history reflected in places we didn't expect.
And of course, the Soulful Experience was created by a Black woman—Jasmine Douse—who saw a gap in luxury travel and filled it with intention, joy, and cultural reverence.
It was unforgettable.
Now, we're heading to the Caribbean Sea.
For the next 7 days, my wife and I will sail with Sea Cloud across Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Colombia, and Panama. I'm especially looking forward to visiting Colombia again and taking her to Palenque—the first free African town in the Americas.
