William Henry Sheppard’s story deserves more light.
Long before social media or global news cycles, this Black American missionary traveled to the Congo, lived among the Kuba people, and became one of the first to expose the brutal atrocities of King Leopold’s regime.
He was a witness, a truth-teller, and a cultural bridge. Like so many of our heroes, his story was buried.
In this video, I unpack who Sheppard was, what he saw, and why his legacy matters—not just for history buffs, but for any of us who care about justice, storytelling, and the places where our people have always shown up with purpose.
