Once upon a time,
I had a Steve Madden bowling bag. It was cute and cheap but the zipper broke after a year. A year after that, after lost change and cheques, I said enough was enough and spent a little bit more on this Kate Spade tote.
I wanted a bag that was both affordable and durable yet wasn't made in the substandard sweatshops of Bangladesh. This bag was manufactured in Vietnam, as far as I know it was made under humane conditions. I hate buying things knowing that people are at risk when they go to work and are not making enough for the necessities of life.
I also mentioned in the intro that I don't consider Kate Spade, among other American Brands, a designer brand. IMO, designers brands are expensive because of the exquisite workmanship of above standard factories and workers who specialize in creating luxury goods (at least that's how I rationalize the crazy prices). Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Balenciaga, a Givenchy, a LV, Alexander Wang, Miu Miu etc but I'm not as successful as I desire to be and see no need at this stage in my life for another designer bag. Additionally, I don't want to be another woman who buys expensive stuff to feel validated (I know not everyone is like that).
