I ran out of baby powder and was told a Norwegian life saver was called potetmel. What is Norwegian Potetmel? π³π΄π₯
Norwegian potetmel is a type of potato starch that is commonly used in Norway for cooking and baking. It is made from the starch extracted from potatoes and is similar to cornstarch in its culinary applications. Potetmel is often used as a thickening agent in sauces, soups, and desserts like puddings, and it can also be used in baking to give a light, tender texture to cakes and cookies.
Potetmel as an alternative to baby powder:
Potato starch, like potetmel, is sometimes used as a natural alternative to baby powder. It has absorbent properties that can help keep skin dry and reduce friction, similar to traditional talc-based baby powders. Here are some points to consider:
1. Absorbency: Potetmel is absorbent, so it can help with moisture control on the skin, making it a reasonable alternative for baby powder in this regard.
2. Gentleness on Skin: Potato starch is generally considered safe and gentle for most skin types, including sensitive baby skin. Itβs a natural product without the added chemicals found in some commercial baby powders.
3. Application: Potetmel should be used in small amounts, and care should be taken to avoid creating dust clouds that could be inhaled, as with any powder.
4. Texture: The texture of potetmel might feel slightly different compared to commercial baby powders, which are often finely milled.
I bought and Iβll try it. Update will come later. π
