Reneilwe Morema reports on how the African Union (AU) has become nothing more than a proxy for the European Union (EU) — defending Western interests instead of standing with the African people.
When Colonel Michael Randrianirina ousted corrupt president Andry Rajoelina in Madagascar, the AU was quick to cut the country off — calling it a “coup”. But where is the AU when Sudan is drowning in famine and war? Where is their outrage when the DRC is being attacked by Western-backed forces for its minerals? Or when Libya has become a hub for human trafficking and kidnappings?
The AU only finds its voice when Africans dare to stand up for their rights — when a nation chooses sovereignty over servitude. That’s when they bark the loudest, waving Western talking points to intimidate African leaders into submission.
Africa deserves an AU that represents Africans, not one that takes orders from Brussels and Paris.
