In this video, I will compare the two cities of Lagos and Nairobi against 8 metrics. Infrastructure, social amenities, weather, cost of living, recreation opportunities, food, safety and economy. By the end of this video I will tell you which city, between Lagos and Nairobi is more livable.
1. Infrastructure.
Both cities have mega construction planned, in progress and some already completed. Lagos has The Lekki Deep Sea Port, The 156km Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, The construction of new international airport terminals in Lagos Airport, Eko Atlantic and Lagos Light Rail. Nairobi is not behind with Konza Technology City, The LAPSSET Corridor Program, Kenya Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Mombasa Highway expansion project, the proposed pinnacle towers, Northlands City, the Nairobi Expressway project, Tatu City and the complete Thika Superhighway. Both cities have nice international Airports but in terms of efficiency and physical development Nairobi’s JKIA easily outshines Lagos Murtala Mohammed International Airport. However in terms of traffic the Lagos Airport enjoys more numbers.
Now let’s compare the skylines. Nairobi seems to have more skyscrapers than Lagos. Lagos is more spread out which I think doesn’t serve Lagos well. Nairobi’s huge skyscrapers are really giving Lagos a run for its money. Both cities have big malls but you can’t compare any mall in Lagos to Nairobi’s Two Rivers. Nairobi may be smaller but seems to be more developed, modern and organized. Lagos existing infrastructure and the scope of its ongoing and proposed projects are slightly behind Nairobi and therefore for this round, Nairobi wins.
2. Social Amenities.
Lagos is a megacity at over 30 million in population. Nairobi on the other hand is considerably smaller at 5 million. Nairobi has a lower population density which is 43.22% lower than Lagos. Accessibility of social amenities is therefore better in Nairobi. Nairobi’s smaller popu
