Welcome Tribe,
It is truly an honor to be documenting this experience, this will undoubtedly be one of the most transformative decisions Iβll be making in my life to date and Iβm feeling ALL the feels.
Living βoff gridβ/βout of the countryβ somewhere the food is real, the ocean is in walking distance and the nature & people around me are beaming with life and intention has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager.
I went to Costa Rica for the first time EVER in October of 2023 and I knew I wanted to call it home, here are a few reasons why:
1. REAL FOOD: They are huge on agriculture and have fresh sources of food growing literally in their backyard. In my experience I never encountered a seedless fruit or vegetable(those that bare seeds of course) my entire time there and thatβs a huge plus for me.
2. Cost of living: 1 US Dollar is Equal to $520 Colones (Costa Rican Money) granted a typical soda in Costa Rica cost $1,000β¬ so at the end of the day it kind of evens out (being that for a soda in the us youβll pay about $2 which is almost the same amount) but housing is where youll see the major differences in cost of living and even if the food will run you the same amount atleast its authentic π€·π½ββοΈ
3. Itβs the safest place in Central America & a lot of black women expats in particular relocate here.
4. The BEACH π: Although the US has some beautiful beaches it can be very expensive to live near them, after talking to locals in the Puerto Viejo area they have a very general quote of $800 for a 2 bedroom 10 minutes away from the beach. In US dollars of course
5. Everything is Art: Before I went I was experiencing a creative block that spiraled me into a realm of lack of ambition of loss in self confidence. When I spent my time in Costa Rica I found it immensely easy to create! EVERY, PERSON, PLACE, DISH, TREE, OCEAN, VOLCANO & ANIMAL was astounding to me and it boosted my creative productivity! I look forward to tapping
