A place that did not live up to the hype for me was Lake Retba, also known as Lac Rose, in Senegal.
I was super excited to visit only to find it devoid of its famed pink hue. Despite the disappointment, the experience was still enriching, sailing on the lake, learning about salt mining, and meeting locals.
