In the Words of Chris Brown: Hell Naw
This is the answer I give people when they ask me whether other people can join my trips who are not Black women over the age of 40 — and especially when they ask if men can join.
In the words of Chris Brown: hell naw.
I enjoy men. Just not on my trips. 😎
Black women over 40 need places and spaces where we can just be.
I recognized that after going on a group trip with a major company where I was the only Black person — and the only Black woman — in a group of 20. I enjoyed Egypt, but I didn’t enjoy the experience.
I also recognized that I prefer not to be on a group trip with couples after I visited Ghana in December 2023. Men change the dynamics of a travel experience in a way that I prefer not to be a part of as a happily single woman.
I recognized that I needed a different type of space if I was going to travel with other people as a Black single woman over 50 — so I created it.
When I looked at the women who came to hang out with me this week and saw the laughter, the joy, the peace, and the sisterhood — I knew I had done the right thing.
