๐บ๐ธ As an American that moved to Iceland in 2016, I was convinced that I would NEVER let my baby nap outside because it felt so unsafe. I respected that Icelanders do it but I was pretty sure that I wouldnโt feel comfortable doing it.
โฐWell, fast forward to 2026 and Iโve been converted to using this method. Our little girl does not nap well inside the house. She might get 20 minutes in the house, but bundling her up in her stroller outside means up to a 3 hour nap!!
๐ Some of the things we do make sure she is safe and that makes me feel ok with doing this is:
โญ๏ธ Keeping her stroller within eyesight at all times. I sit in my office or the living room facing the window where she is situated.
โญ๏ธ Using a baby monitor in her stroller, so we can hear any sound she makes
โญ๏ธ Periodically going outside to check on her, just to be sure.
โญ๏ธ Also, she is napping in our private backyard away from any foot or car traffic, which definitely makes me feel better
๐ฎ๐ธ I know that this is not for everyone, and Iโm not trying to convince anyone to do this. This is just my experience of taking on a Nordic tradition in Iceland and being surprised at the amazing benefits.
