In This travel Video I will show you my experience in this country called Bulgaria Everyone told me it was too dangerous… too risky… especially for someone like me.
But instead of danger, I found music, culture, history, and even a Roma wedding where I was welcomed like family, I visited Fakulteta, one of the most misunderstood neighborhoods in Sofia, Bulgaria — a place almost no foreigner dares to visit. Locals warned me not to go. They said it was dangerous, unpredictable, and unsafe for outsiders.
So I went to see the truth for myself so i got I got invited to a Roma wedding in Fakulteta, one of the most misunderstood neighborhoods in Sofia, Bulgaria. People told me not to go — they said it was dangerous and foreigners never enter.
But what I experienced was completely different from the internet stories.
As a Black traveler, I expected tension, suspicion, and distance. But what I found completely shattered every expectation.
From the moment I stepped into this neighborhood, I could feel the eyes on me — curious, cautious, but not hostile. The streets were alive with vibrant life, music, and local energy, and I was invited to experience something I never imagined: a traditional Roma wedding.
Traveling as a Black man in places where I stand out can be intimidating, but this journey reminded me that curiosity, respect, and openness can lead to experiences most people will never see.

experiencing a culture up close,
and challenging the stories we’re told about places we’ve never seen for ourselves.
