In this video, I take a look at a recent situation in Chicago involving a young rapper and political activist named Stucky. For a long time, Stucky has been a vocal supporter of Mayor Brandon Johnson and a staunch defender of the migrant community, specifically telling the Black community to stop blaming Venezuelans for the city's issues and to focus on their own resources.
However, after a video went viral where he reacted to a non-Black person using a racial slur, he was met with a massive wave of hate and racist commentary from the very community he had been defending. I dive into his response—where he admits he doesn't "fight fire with water"—and explore the harsh lesson he’s learning about unrequited loyalty.
I use this situation to discuss why it is critical for Black Americans to stop sticking their necks out for other groups that don't prioritize or respect them in return. Whether it's in Chicago, LA, or Philadelphia, we see territory and resources being shifted, and it’s time we focus our energy on building and defending our own communities first.
What do you think about Stucky’s change of heart? Is it time to stop being the "shield" for everyone else? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
