Driving in a Single Lane Tunnel in Iceland
Believe it or not, there are single lane tunnels in Iceland. π¬ While there arenβt very many of them and they are in more rural areas, itβs helpful to know about them before you encounter it so you can mentally prepare yourself.
The main thing to know is who needs to yield or pull over to let an oncoming car pass while in the tunnel.
βοΈ If a place to pull over in the tunnel is on your right-hand side while driving, youβre obliged to pull over to let the oncoming traffic pass.
There are also many one-lane bridges here. The rule here is that the first car at the bridge goes first. Then cars on each side take turns going over the bridge.
The places these tunnels connect you to are definitely worth exploring, if you have the time, so donβt let the fear of encountering a car in a one-lane tunnel deter you from traveling around Iceland.
