Dont Pet The Tigers In Thailand

Tigers Park in Pattaya, Thailand - Pattaya Thailand Tiger Park offers a rare chance to see and touch captive tigers, but what lies behind those smiles and photo-ops? In this video I explore the park’s enclosures, share my firsthand observations and highlight the complex social dynamics that allow tiger tourism to thrive. From guided cub cuddles to adult tigers led through stiff poses, you’ll see how society’s rules shape our wildlife experiences, here in Thailand and back home.

With only around 150 wild tigers left in Thailand, facilities like this fill a demand for “tiger selfies.” Many of these big cats live in concrete cages or are gently sedated so visitors can pose beside them. While the park staff emphasize close-up access, I’ll also draw parallels to entertainment attractions in the U.S.—SeaWorld’s orca shows, roadside zoos and even rodeos, where animals are trained to perform for applause.

This isn’t about judging one country over another. It’s an invitation to notice double standards in how we interact with wildlife worldwide. Later this month I plan to visit a true sanctuary to learn how rescued tigers can live in near-natural habitats without chains, sedatives or forced tricks. Join me as we explore better practices and discover how our travel choices can help protect these majestic animals.
