Two American travelers who went viral after posting videos about being stranded in Dubai during missile alerts and flight shutdowns in the Middle East are finally escaping the country.

Just days ago, the women were pleading for help online after hearing explosions, rushing to shelter, and struggling to find flights out of Dubai as travel across parts of the Middle East was disrupted. Their emotional videos spread quickly across social media as thousands of travelers tried to rebook flights and find a way home.

Now, both women say they have finally made it out of the region and are on their way home after days of uncertainty.

In this update, journalist Angela Brown follows up on the story and shares what the travelers say helped them escape — including the role of social media attention and the power of people sharing their story online.
