Americans Are Getting Asked This Question Abroad… And Some Of Y’all Are Afraid To Answer
A video is circulating on TikTok of an American woman claiming she was treated badly at a bar in Northern Ireland after someone asked her who she voted for.
But here’s the thing many Americans don’t realize when they travel abroad: people around the world are paying attention to what is happening in the United States, and they have opinions about it.
Ireland in particular has a long and complicated political history — including centuries of conflict with Britain and the ongoing reality of Northern Ireland still being part of the United Kingdom. Politics is not something you can simply avoid when you visit.
In this video I talk about why that question gets asked, what it tells people about you, and why Americans traveling abroad should take a few minutes to educate themselves about the countries they visit.
