A Personal Note | My Father Passed Away
A Personal Note
On February 12, 2026, my father passed away.
He was 94 years old and lived a long, God-centered and God-fearing life.
He was a wonderful man — a great husband, father, brother, cousin, and friend.
He is, in many ways, responsible for my sense of adventure.
He was always delighted by my wandering and especially excited when I told him about Egypt and other travels across the continent of Africa.
He is responsible for my strong sense of right and wrong.
Just last month, I accompanied my Dad to the island of Tobago, where he was born, to attend his younger brother’s funeral.
I got to spend real, unhurried time with him.
We laughed.
We teased each other.
I learned things about him I had never known before.
At 94 years old, he was still teaching me.
I am deeply grateful that I had that time with him — that I chose to go, that I paused my schedule, that I sat beside him and listened.
I got to know him even better.
And now he is gone.
There is a lesson in that.
Life is so short.
Every opportunity we have to spend time with the people we love — doing the things we love — we should grab it.
I am so glad I took the time last month to travel with my Dad.
Needless to say, this is probably the most consequential loss of my life.
While for me,it was not completely unexpected, it is still quite a blow.
I appreciate the condolences in advance.
While I am not okay, I will be.
I am not a religious person, but my father was.
He deeply loved the Lord, and I truly believe that if heaven exists, he will be there. He lived his entire life in such an upright manner that I know his soul is well.
Thank you for your patience and grace as I move through this moment.
I love you Daddy
You rest now.
See you on the other side.
